My Story ~
Welcome! I’m Abby Bautista
I created this site because I know what it's like to be a college student mislead by social media trends, online content, and endless information. I know what it is like to be stressed about your skin. But honestly? My inspiration goes a way deeper than stress.
I'm Abby, a senior at Saint Joseph's University. I'm a Communication Studies major, but I'm currently in the process of shifting my career focus on healthcare, while utilizing my communications skills gained at SJU. That shift didn't come out of nowhere. It started with my own skin.
For years, I dealt with recurring a skin condition that left me frustrated, anxious, and honestly kind of hopeless. My excema has caused many obstacles for me, as silly as that may sound.
Being mistreated used to affect my everyday life. I couldn’t do simple tasks, enjoy my hobbies, or even simply exist without pain and worry for my skin. I tried what everyone suggested. I scrolled through online recommendations, bought products that promised "miracle" results, and spent way too much money on things that either did nothing or made things worse. I didn't know who to trust. I didn't know what was real.
It took time, research, and finally seeing a dermatologist who actually listened to realize that skincare isn't supposed to be this confusing. That experience, finally understanding what was happening to my own skin, learning the science behind it, and feeling like I had some control back, ignited something in me. It made me want to understand the body, to help others who were stuck in that same cycle of confusion and frustration. It's why I'm now pursuing work with medicine.
How I often times walk around until my eczema heals!!
This project is a bridge between where I've been and where I'm going. It's my way of combining what I've learned as a Communication Studies major, how to translate complex information into something clear and accessible, with my growing passion for healthcare.
My goal is simple: to give students a skincare resource that's actually helpful. No product pushing. No scare tactics. Just real information YOU can use.
Everything here comes from:
Peer-reviewed research (I've read the studies so you don't have to)
Web design guidance from class instructed by Dr. Bill Wolff and Dr. Rachael Sullivan
Real conversations with students just like you
I'm not a doctor, but I'm a student who has been where you are, and I believe you deserve honest, clear information about your skin without the noise.
Got questions? Want to share your story? Reach out, I'd love to hear from you!
